ABCs Teaching the Letters of the Alphabet

Why  is it important to teach using students names ?
To a child, his/her name holds a place of supreme importance. We know through research that teaching letters one at a time, one per week and/or in isolation is not an effective teaching method.

However, using names to teach letters of the alphabet is a very powerful teaching tool.
Names are so meaningful to children that they provide the spark to engage children in the identification of the letters in their own names first and then letters in friends and family member’s name.

Names are empowering and  motivating for them.

A child who is eager, motivated, and feels empowered about this or her own learning is going to learn more quickly and retain more than a child who is not.
